THE CHRISTOpHER W. Gee LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROGRAM 2026

Description and Overview

CTN Foundation is honored to announce a scholarship in Christopher W. Gee’s name. This award celebrates Chris’ life and legacy in the animation industry and his overwhelming passion for animation and film.  In recognition of his achievements this award is for emerging artists, filmmakers and visual storytellers working at the intersection of art, technology, craft  and image-making.


This scholarship aims to provide resources, experience and mentoring for aspiring filmmakers, film technicians, compositors and troubleshooters.  To shine a light on those up and coming creatives who sit at the intersection of technology and art.


2026 Applications

APPLICATION ASSIGNMENT

Interested candidates must submit a portfolio showcasing the details below, along with the personal statement selfie video.

Portfolio: Technical Proficiency and Digital Artistry

  • Examples (before/after) /reel of compositing work (animation/live action)
  • Examples of your photography and/or cinematography.
  • Examples of any mixed media projects 
  • Motion graphics and/or title design.

Selfie Video

  • What do you love most about digital compositing or working in the digital landscape?
  • What is your favorite film and why?
  • What drew you to this scholarship as opposed to others?
  • Tell us about yourself and why you love working with artists in a digital world.

Important Dates

  • You do not need to be involved in, enrolled in, or a graduate of a university/scholastic program, but must have a basic level knowledge of art training.
  • Must be 18+ years of age.
  • A driving passion to work in film and animation, post production and compositing
  • May require travel to Burbank, California, USA.
  • You will need to speak and read English.

MEET YOUR MENTOR CGI LIGHTING ARTIST DARREN KINER

Darren Kiner is a CGI Lighting Artist and CGI Supervisor whose work spans across 25 years in Feature Animation, TV Animation and Visual Effects. 


Most recently Darren was  the Lighting and Compositing Director on the Nickelodeon television series Big Nate, where he helped design the look of the show. 


In the past, Darren has worked in Visual Effects on such films as Alita, Battle Angel (at Weta Digital, NZ) and on many Animated Features (Aladdin, Fantasia 2000, Iron Giant, Hotel Transylvania, etc).

MEET YOUR MENTOR Illustrator and Designer Pascal Campion

Pascal Campion is a French-American illustrator and animator. Pascal has worked in a wide variety of media, from games and music videos to feature films and books.


Pascal wears many hats in the art world; from production design to visual development for feature films and television; to creating commercial animation for clients such as Chevron and Disney; as well participating in various feature animations and animation specials. 


From 2020 - 2023 Pascal was the Production Designer for AppleTV's Peanuts specials which are new classics that are heartwarming as well as award winning.

CHRISTOPHER W. GEE (1961-2024)

Christopher W. Gee was a digital film recording specialist, film scanner, printer and color compositing and timer at Walt Disney Animation Studios for almost 30 years. 


Chris was a CAPS pioneer, helping develop software for modern digital 2D animation. 

Chris is known for his work on Runaway Brain, Pocahontas, Nightmare Before Christmas and many many more.
