For a lifetime, David Block has created worlds through animation and storytelling.
Now, he invites us to see the world through a different lens—through oil, light, color, and the quiet poetry of the landscape.
From Worlds Imagined to Worlds Seen features more than 30 original oil paintings, revealing David’s transition from creating imagined worlds to capturing the beauty of the world before him.
Join us at the CTN Studio Gallery for a special opening Sunday Brunch-style gathering on October 25, from 11 AM–3 PM, celebrating David’s new body of work.
David will be in attendance.
The paintings on display will be available for purchase throughout the exhibition.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the CTN Foundation in support of its mission, “No Artist Left Behind,” helping create opportunities for artists at every stage of their creative journey.
Come see where an animator’s eye meets the landscape—and where a lifetime of storytelling finds a new canvas.

David has been an Animator and Director for 43 years, starting with Chuck Jones and leading to 33 years at Walt Disney Studios.
In 1977, David entered Walt Disney Studios under the mentorship of Eric Larson, one of Walt’s legendary Nine Old Men. David was a character animator on the feature films
"The Fox and the Hound", "Mickey's Christmas Carol", "The Black Cauldron", "The Great Mouse Detective", “Hercules”, “Tarzan”, “The Emperor’s New Groove”, and “Treasure Planet”.
In 1985, Disney executives asked David to become a key member in the creation of a new division, Walt Disney Television Animation. Besides co-creating Disney's first Saturday morning series, David was the first to go overseas to train and supervise production in the studio that would eventually become Disney Animation Studio, Japan. After a highly successful first season, David was promoted to Director/Producer and went on to Direct and Produce over 100 half hours of programing, as well as 1 Theatrical Short, and 2 feature DVDs for Disney and Warner Bros.
From 2012 to 2016, David animated classic Disney characters for Disneyland parks in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Florida, and Anaheim.
David has been a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science for over 40 years. Since 2017, David retired from Animation, and took up painting landscapes and seascapes in oil paint. Where the pencil used to be his daily tool, it is now a brush. David’s paintings have been collected by collectors as far away as the Netherlands and he now enjoys the challenge in depicting the world around him in the style of impressionism.
