THE TORSTEN SCHRANK SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROGRAM 2025

Description and Overview

In honor of his remarkable contributions to the world of character design, the CTN Foundation is proud to announce The Torsten Schrank Scholarship Award.  This award will  celebrate Torsten’s legacy and encourage future generations.


The life experiences of Torsten Schrank  have shaped his artistic journey, offering invaluable lessons he’s learned along the way. From working on big studio productions to building his own creative studio, Torsten opens up about the challenges and rewards of balancing the artistic and business sides of his career. Whether working independently or collaborating with major studios, Torsten’s eye for design and passion for storytelling continues to inspire the next generation of character creators. 


This scholarship is designed to support and nurture emerging talent with a focus on character design, providing artists with the opportunity to refine their skills and launch their careers.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates must submit a portfolio showcasing their best character design work, along with the required application test and personal statement selfie video detailing their artistic journey and aspirations. Application deadline: March 29th, 2025.

Important Dates

  • You do not need to be involved in, enrolled in, or a graduate of a university/scholastic program, but must have a basic level knowledge of art training.
  • Must be 18+ years of age.
  • A driving passion to be a character designer.
  • May require travel to Burbank, California, USA.
  • You will need to speak and read English.

  • Have fun!!
  • Submit a portfolio showcasing their best character design work.
  •  Submit the required application test.
  •  Submit a personal statement selfie video detailing your artistic journey and aspirations.
  • Make the most of this opportunity.
  •  Can be done on paper with pencil or on a Tablet using Digital Drawing tools like Procreate or Photoshop or other digital drawing tools.
  • Don't wait until the last minute to upload to best insure your application gets into the system.
  • Make sure you are 100% happy with your submission. You will not be able to edit your application after you submit.

  • Regular assignments will provide exclusive insights into Torsten's approach to the challenge of character design.
  • The process covers everything from initial concept sketches to final, production-ready model sheets.
  • Each one-on-one session is approximately 1 hour.
  • Sessions are scheduled and organized through the CTN Foundation.

MEET YOUR MENTOR ToRSTEN SCHRANK

Torsten Schrank  is an award-winning character designer well known for his work on Netflix’s ‘KLAUS’, for which he won the Annie Award and Concept Art Award in 2020.


He earned a Diploma of Traditional Animation at the Film University HFF “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam, Germany. After his graduation, he trained himself in workshops like “Acting for Animators” with Ed Hooks and Training Programs like “Character Animation” at the former Walt Disney Feature Animation Paris.


Since then he has been working as Character Designer for several animated feature films, TV-Series, commercials and games worldwide.
